A Vibrant Eclectic Mix

Steeped in her signature, delicate vintage style, Sally’s latest bridal collection is a vibrant, eclectic mix of beautifully cut pieces inspired by the best of bygone eras and designed for the modern free spirited, discerning bride. Stepping into the East London atelier is akin to finding a beautiful array of vintage wedding dresses which can all be made to fit to perfection with interchangeable style details.

From a show-stopping liquid silk 1930’s inspired gown to the sleek elegant Floral lace kimono dress the collection carries Sally Lacock’s distinctive stamp of enduring timeless style. There are cool ‘70s prairie dresses, a gently graceful grecian style inspired by the Ballet Russes and 1950s inspired Sylvie dress with yards of tulle and elegant long lace sleeves.

The lightness and beauty of these pieces can be attributed in no small part to the exquisite French laces and silks that Sally loves to work with, as detailed in the article A Bride’s Guide To Vintage Lace.

Shooting the latest collection

In the midst of Winter as January was drawing to a close, we spent an amazing day with a talented team shooting our latest collection at The House Next Door in Stoke Newington.

With it’s wonderful atmosphere and rich patina we couldn’t have found a more perfect setting as a backdrop for the relaxed nature and intricate detailing of our dresses.

The House Next Door, a former building merchants with a rich past, is situated on the corner of London’s Jewish Quarter. Offering a variety of rooms in which to shoot, each with its own unique colour scheme and character we were spoilt for choice as the whole house suited the Sally Lacock look so well .

The collection was shot by our favourite photographer Jeff Cottenden, who apart from being a delight to work with, has a brilliant eye for detail honed over years of shooting historic portraits and still lifes, which can be found gracing book covers across the world. We managed to convince Jeff to turn his lens once more to fashion photography, as we knew he would capture the quality of our workmanship and the essence of the collection with great understanding.

Head to Toe Styling

Our Bridal looks wouldn’t have been complete without some stunning one-off vintage headpieces and our favourite accessory designer makers came up with some truly gorgeous pieces.

Cherished Vintage Bridal Accessories made the most exquisite soft blush jewelled tiara to pair with our vintage hollywood Madeleine dress and the blues, greens and golds in the mixed stone band were perfect for the soft delicate tones of the grecian Esme.  Also by Cherished vintage was the striking bone china flower crown seen with the Carly dress.

Emma Caderni’s pretty natural wax wildflower and berry crowns added an ultra feminine flower fairy woodland feel to the 1950’s inspired Sylvie dress and the delicate French lace Flora style.

Not forgetting the feet and sadly often out of view with our full length dresses, the stunning shoes were loaned to us by Love Art Wear Art. Shoes are never totally out of view on the day though and these beauties are definitely worth the investment.

Rustic Flowers

With her naturalistic, rustic vintage style florist Clare of Love Blooms was the obvious go to girl for flowers to suit both the location and the dresses. Huge thanks to Clare for making the exquisite bouquets, room arrangements and fresh flower hair combs from seasonal flowers. Clare is a master of her craft who has an amazing eye for colour and form, creating beautiful shapes and tonally perfect compositions.

A Natural Fresh Faced Look

No shoot is possible without an expert in the art of Hair and Make-up and we were lucky to be joined by the talented  Harriet Cook who skilfully enhanced the natural beauty of our model Laura,  creating a soft, subtle look with a palette of neutrals and styled the relaxed informal hair.
